Remembered
Compiled and edited by
Barbara Fisher

At the time of Joyce Cary's death in
1957, he was one of the most admired of modern British
novelists with, perhaps, The Horse's Mouth and
Mr Johnson his best-known works. Since then,
his reputation suffered a decline, but it is now regaining
lost ground.
The contributions to Joyce Cary Remembered bring
together the memories and recollections of of over seventy
people, members of his family, friends, colleagues and
editors. They provide many insights into Cary's background
in Ireland, his intellectual and artistic development, his
depth and seriousness as a writer, and his personal
integrity.
Published to coincide with the centenary of Cary's birth, it
is divided into three parts, covering his family background
and early years, Cary as the family man and professional
writer, and his international reputation.
