Tales of the West of Ireland
A collection of newspaper articles written for the Mayo News in the 19th Century. James Berry was a native of Co. Mayo and, like Carleton, was of peasant stock. The tales introduce all manner of characters - packmen, raparees and smugglers; they are set in bleak and haunting landscapes; and the stories are about murder, manhunts, smuggling, wakes, rebellion and starvation. 0-85105-502-8 £6.99 29/01/2008 |
