of Fantasy, ed. Robert Silverberg Paperback HarperCollins issued a prepublication publicity sampler containing two stories from the collection, the present story and Raymond E.Feist’s ‘The Wood Boy’. Each, with its appropriate cover design, is upsidedown to the other. 1000 copies were produced, of which 200 were signed on the respective title page by the author.

This story was written in response to a request from Terry’s old paper and as that invitation came while he was writing Hogfather, the story was written and, revised, became a scene in the novel.
